Translation of Hit Chinese Buzzword of "后浪"
Recently, a propaganda video called "后浪", created by China's popular bullet-commented video sharing platform, hit the internet in China and went widely spreading over WeChat. The Chinese word "后浪 (hòu làng)" certainly becomes one of China's most popular online buzzwords to describe the youth, the younger generation or new generation of the nation.
Generally, the first Chinese character "后 (hòu)" in the word 后浪 works as a noun or adjective word in simplified Chinese with the meaning of behind, afterwards or last. And another character "浪 (làng)" from the word 后浪 is a noun meaning the waves in the ocean or something moving like waves.
In China, there is a popular old-saying known by almost all Chinese people, called "长江后浪推前浪 (cháng jiāng hòu làng tuī qián làng)", which means the back waves of the Yangtze River in China push the front ones forward. It usually indicates one of the development and alternation rules of physical things in the world. The old one will finally get replaced by the new generation, the youth will become the mainstream power to move the human beings and the world forward and this will never stop.
